You talk of the Aptera as if it’s something available and on the market.
It’s not.
It also has a single cylinder diesel engine to charge itself and I guess provide more range.
Hopefully they make it bio-diesel compatable.
The second prototype is still under construction, and the company hopes to be in production around March of 08.
Even then they will be few in number.
However, they have been doing road tests and acording to the video (which is not good quality) and the testimony of the driver the car remained stable when passed on the highway by an 18 wheeler.
While I hope this works, as I want to buy one if price, durability of batteries, warranty etc are acceptable, I’m not counting on it actually coming into the market.

This is not electric, but a true diesel-electric hybrid. I say “true,” because it does not use a standard vehicle engine like all others on the road today. All of today’s vehicles are inefficient due to weight, aerodynamics and engines that must work in a very wide power-band. True hybrids use narrow power-band engines like those used for industrial purposes. All diesels are biodiesel compatible, giving this vehicle the highest mileage with the lowest emissions and the lowest total environmental footprint of any powered vehicle. I’m confident that its simplicity will enable to come to market soon. Maybe not with Detroit’s numbers, but it will stand as a reminder to all of us that we should not be happy to get just 35mpg.
