China Bans Reincarnation

Aug. 20-27, 2007 issue – In one of history’s more absurd acts of totalitarianism, China has banned Buddhist monks in Tibet from reincarnating without government permission. Link to the Article

Apparently people living in China will no longer be able to reincarnate. The government has decided it can regulate reincarnation to try to squash the Dalai Lama and the Buddhist religion. How can any government believe they can control the spiritual beliefs of an individual or a religion?
