I understand your concern around the implication of technology being evil...although, I don't know that I got that...as much as the idea that people's use of technology and their possible motives or agendas may have reason to be in question. (It's not really ever about technology, is it? It's about how it's used and from what intention/vibe, etc...just like everything else.) This is an age old archetypal story, really. Joseph Campbell style brought into this century with amazing technology. That's the catch 22, isn't it? Which is why if we asked James Cameron if he meant to imply that technology was evil, I'm pretty sure he might think that would be a pretty interesting paradox...seeing as though it took him 4 years to create this movie ('cause he had to wait for the technology to meet his genius vision...& that was after waiting 8 years to even be able to begin at all. He sees the beauty in technology and his making of this movie solely depended on it.) This article piqued my interest. :) I saw Avatar a couple weeks ago, and trying to figure out how I feel about it is still driving me completely insane. I mean, I too found myself feeling a real connection and love for Pandora, so that by the end I almost felt like one of them. In fact I felt like I was going along with Jake at the exact same pace, learning more and more about the world, understanding it more and more deeply as it went on. I think there is a lot to learn from their way of life, but on the other hand I don't feel so good about the implication that technology is evil and that we should *only* sit and be connected and hunt and meditate and ignore the human drive to create. Y'know? As a guy who loves both technology and nature pretty much equally, I can't make heads or tails of my feelings on this, hah. I suppose what I'm saying is that the world of Pandora would make a *wonderful* basis, but we could definitely stand to mix in some more modern elements, like how nowadays people can pretty much get where they want to be in any way they want, and are not so forced to one way by tradition, for example. Pandora seems to be a strange combination of new and old ideas about what enlightenment is (A lot of it feels right to me, but I don't agree that being technologically primitive is any indication or requirement of being connected or enlightened).
